fundamentals of interactive strategies

WHAT are the fundamentals of interactive STRATEGIES?

WHAT ARE THE FUNDAMENTALS?
Every interactive strategy supports engagement by combining three fundamental tools: "Let's All Say/Do That" Technique, Question and Incorporation Technique, and Sound and Gesture Technique.

  • Not every strategy uses all of them at once, but they always use at least one.
  • Once you have mastered these three techniques, you'll have the basis of every interactive strategy.

HOW DO INTERACTIVE STRATEGIES WORK?

HOW DO INTERACTIVE STRATEGIES WORK?
Simply, interactive strategies support learning by increasing engagement.

  • There are a few different ways a student can engage with a lesson: physically, vocally, intellectually, or emotionally.
  • When a student is engaged on any of these levels, they are better at understanding and retaining material.

HOW DO STUDENTS ENGAGE?

HOW DO STUDENTS ENGAGE?
There are plenty of ways that students can engage with a lesson. Some examples include:

  • Being emotionally invested in the material; empathizing with the story or character
  • Getting the opportunity to shape their own learning
  • Physically and vocally interacting with the material
  • Getting validation for their ideas, even if they need to be corrected
  • Having fun

All of these methods are supported by the three fundamentals.
